EOU Alumni Association Board of Directors

Message from the Alumni Association President

Dear Alumni and Friends of the University,

I hope this letter finds you and your family healthy and happy.

I am so proud and humbled to serve as the President of the EOU Alumni Association Board of Directors. EOU holds a very special place in my heart. When I think back to what has shaped me as a person, EOU is at the top of my list. EOU not only provided me with a high-quality undergraduate and graduate education with hands-on learning that equipped me for a successful career at a global tech company, but it gave me diverse experiences that I would have never had access to at a different institution. I was able to excel in academics, give back to the community, gain experience as a teacher’s aide and tutor, and participate in extracurricular activities. I was fortunate enough to play one season of collegiate soccer before having to hang up my cleats and pursue other interests due to an injury. I quickly realized that at Eastern, there was life after sports. There were so many options to choose from in terms of activities and organizations beyond athletics, and I was able to become active in student government, a passion I was unaware that I had. I was even able to serve two terms on the Oregon State Board of Higher Education ⎯ what an opportunity!

The experiences I gained and lessons I learned at EOU have shaped me into the mother, wife, businesswoman, and community member that I am today. Values like altruism, integrity, civility, and discovery have played a major role in my life and I attribute that to EOU. The quality faculty and small class sizes enable students to do their best and be their best. These are some of the reasons why I chose to attend EOU almost 20 years ago, and they still hold true today. It was one of the best decisions of my life as it put me on the path of where I am today, writing this letter to all of you. I know many of us have not been able to get back to campus recently, I highly encourage you to make a visit during Homecoming this Fall or Blue & Gold Weekend in the Spring to re-connect with EOU. The campus continues to see beautiful updates, and it is one of my favorite places to be. There is something so special about being back on campus with old friends.

Our alumni board is composed of a wonderful and diverse group of people who are passionate about and dedicated to serving EOU. There are many different ways for alumni to stay engaged with our alma mater besides serving as a board member — volunteering for projects, giving a donation that is either dedicated to a specific purpose or for annual operating support, serving on a committee or the EOU Foundation, or by attending one of the many regional events sponsored by the alumni association throughout the year. We are always looking for passionate new board members, so if you want to get involved with an awesome team, please reach out. If you have not done so already, go online and update your information ateou.edu/alumni, and find out when there is an event in your area and join us!

Once a Mountie, always a Mountie. GO MOUNTAINEERS!
