92% move on to Graduate School

One of the most rapidly expanding career fields today is that of the health sciences. At Eastern Oregon University students planning to enter a professional program in the health care field take their foundation courses through the pre-professional sequences.

There is no “best” major to gain entry into the professional school that requires a degree, although many EOU students complete a biology or chemistry-biochemistry degree as they encompass many of the prerequisite courses.

Declare a major

Upon admission to EOU all new students are assigned to an advisor.

To change your current EOU major, students may contact their current academic advisor, or email advising atadvising@eou.edufor assistance. Online students can contact their online advisor atonline@eou.edu.

Health Speaker Series

EOU launched the health speaker series with the goal of providing students interested in pursuing healthcare careers the opportunity to hear first-hand experiences from members of the area medical community. In addition to the presentations by the dental, medical and allied health community, students learn more about the application and admission process from representatives of graduate health programs. The series is offered at various times throughout the months and will continue through spring term.

Pre-Professional Clubs

Pre-Professional Health Club

PPHC is a student club for individuals interested in pursing a health career such as dental hygiene, dentistry, medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, radiology, respiratory therapy, and other health related careers.

Students may join any time during the academic calendar year. Students may attend the first meeting of the year, usually held within the first two weeks of the academic year to obtain membership information or contact an officer of the club.

Pre-Veterinary Club

The purpose of the Eastern Oregon University Pre-Vet Club shall be to inform members on the multiple career options within the fields of veterinary medicine and animal-related careers. To provide opportunities for students to gain volunteering/shadowing experience with all types of animals large, small, and exotic (if available), present speakers at various meetings to share their veterinary journey and answer questions that the club members may have and to promote a better understanding and interest of the veterinary profession with like-minded students and the community.
